The Foundation for Delaware County Awards $15K Grant to CUYS
The Foundation for Delaware County has awarded Chester Upland Youth Soccer (CUYS) a $15,000 grant to support CUYS’s Soccer for Success programming in the 2020-21 school year.
Soccer for Success is the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s innovative after-school program that uses soccer as a channel to teach healthy living habits and provide mentorship in nearly 200 underserved locations around the country. Chester Upland Youth Soccer delivers this program to nearly 500 students within the Chester, Upland and Eddystone communities.
“Participation in youth sports provides a critical set of life lessons such as cooperation, leadership, work ethic and the value of making healthy choices, all under the guidance of a caring mentor in a safe and productive environment,” stated Jeannine Fallon Anckaitis, Executive Director of Chester Upland Youth Soccer. “Doesn’t every child deserve to have that experience? We are grateful for the Foundation for Delaware County’s support in our efforts.”
Chester Upland Youth Soccer further strengthens the communities it serves by engaging not just children playing soccer, but also their families. Parents, guardians and coach-mentors typically connect at a variety of events such as the Sweet Potato Dinner, the Fall Jamboree and the Spring Play Day. There, the organization is able to provide the community with healthy meals and snacks, free health and nutrition education, and gift certificates to local vendors, and exchange ideas for further support.
The Foundation for Delaware County is the largest community foundation in Delaware County. Its mission is to build a healthy community and encourage philanthropy throughout Delaware County.
In conjunction with grant support from the US Soccer Foundation, the $15,000 grant from the Foundation for Delaware County will directly support Soccer for Success during the 2020-2021 academic year.
Chester Upland Youth Soccer has also received generous support from the Philadelphia Union Foundation, The Community’s Foundation, Chester Crozer Health System, the Taylor Community Foundation and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
