Fall 2021 Participants Report on Impact of Soccer for Success
At the conclusion of each CUYS “Soccer for Success” season, our Site Directors conduct a post-season survey to measure emotional, social, and behavioral changes in participants.
In our post-season survey for Fall 2021:
91% of respondents agreed with the statement: "After participating in Soccer for Success, I feel better about myself."
94% agreed with "After participating in Soccer for Success, I enjoy working with my teammates more."
91% agreed with: "After participating in Soccer for Success, I try harder to stay away from violence and fighting."
97% agreed with: "After participating in Soccer for Success, I want to participate in more sports and activities."
When asked “After participating in Soccer for Success, do you like the game of soccer more?” 85% replied yes, 15% replied “kind of” and 0 replied “no.”
Additionally, at Soccer Saturdays between March and May 2021, we conducted a survey to assess families' perceptions of the physical activity needs of their children. According to the survey results, parents and guardians wanted their children to get 6.9 hours of physical activity each week, but less than 20% were achieving that, and 80% were physically active for five hours or less per week. Nearly 40% reported their children had gained an unhealthy amount of weight during the pandemic. Despite the limitations of the pandemic, we strived to produce opportunities to engage children in physical activity and to address families’ concerns about physical health.
In Fall 2021 and in future seasons, CUYS aims to engage participants in three 90-minute sessions per week, and to make video resources and additional training available to those who want to do even more.
